ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a building technology society with more than 54,000 members worldwide. The Society and its members focus on building systems energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. Committees, such as Unitary Heat Pumps 7.6, have the duty to update ASHRAE technical handbooks.  Through HVAC research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment.

IEEE is a professional association that advances technological innovation in the electric power industry through publications, conferences, technology standards and education. Members are engineers, scientists, and allied professionals with technical interests in electrical and computer sciences, and engineering. The focus of the Power & Energy Society of IEEE is research, development, planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of power and electronic systems for the safe, sustainable economic and reliable usage of electric energy.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) promotes the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and fosters action for sustainable development. It is the source for information and networking in the dynamic fields of energy engineering, energy management, renewables, alternative energy, power generation, energy services, sustainability, and related areas. AEE’s overall strength is augmented by its strong membership base of over 16,000 professionals in 90 countries and its widely recognized energy certification programs.

USGBC is dedicated to sustainable building design and construction and developers of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Members are organizations from every industry who work to advance a more sustainable built environment through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. USGBC works toward its mission through education, a nationwide network of chapters, the annual Greenbuild International Conference and advocacy.

Chamber of Commerce works to make the Greater Kansas City region the best place to live, work, and start a business, by strengthening the region’s economy, advocating business’ interests in public policy, and providing programs and resources that help members grow their business. The Centurions Leadership Program offers leadership development through community issue task forces, such as Riverfront Redevelopment, and service on nonprofit boards.

CIDA has witnessed a major growth spurt as a result of an effective public-private partnership that has planned investments of over $200 Million to resolve the numerous infrastructure issues. Hope stimulated by this new investment has stimulated the investment of numerous new companies and has slowed the tendency of companies to leave the area. CIDA, the industrial area of the Kansas City Industrial Council that encompasses the West Bottoms and Livestock District, works with city authorities to study the district’s potential and map its future development.

Harvesters is a clearinghouse for the collection and distribution of food and related household products, helping people since 1979 by collecting food and household products from community and industry sources, distributing those products and providing nutrition services through a network of nonprofit agencies and offering leadership and education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and generate solutions to alleviate hunger.
